Heikki Mannila appointed as President of the Academy of Finland
The Government of Finland has appointed Professor, Vice President for Academic Affairs Heikki Mannila as President of the Academy of Finland. The post will be filled for the period between 1 March 2012 and 28 February 2017.
Before that, Mannila worked as a university professor and associate professor. He has had a long and distinguished career as a researcher, with diverse and significant publications. Mannila also has extensive national and international experience in serving as an expert and in positions of trust in projects related to education and science policy.
The Academy of Finland fosters scientific research and its utilisation; promotes international scientific cooperation; serves as an expert in science policy questions; grants funding for scientific research, researcher training and the development of research capabilities; and performs other specialist science policy tasks laid down in the Government decree or assigned by the Ministry of Education.
Ten applications were submitted for the post of President of the Academy of Finland.
