International Relations handles international matters concerning more than one unit in the Ministry.

The unit also assist the departments and other units in

• Developing international activities
• Preparing international agreements
• Tasks relating to Nordic cooperation
• Tasks relating to multilateral and bilateral cooperation common to the Ministry
• General matters relating to cooperation with neighbouring areas
• Tasks relating to kindred nations.

EU matters are handled by the EU Desk, which

• Coordinates matters relating to the European Union
• Manages EU documentation
• Follows the work of EU bodies relevant to the Ministry of Education sector and disseminates related information
• Informs the Departments and units about current EU issues
• Assists the Ministry in other matters relating to the European Union.

In addition, International Relations assists other units in matters relating to international visits.

• Center for International Mobility (CIMO)
• The National Commission for UNESCO assists the Ministry in matters relating to the Organisation.
